Is a succession needed in Louisiana for a jointly owned property to removed the deceased from the title?

My father and mother own a home in Louisiana. My father ped away and my mother wants to sell the home. Both their names are on the title. We are confused as to how to remove him from the title. I searched on the internet and it appears laws differ by state. We consulted an attorney that advised succession which cost about $2000. Is there any way to avoid a succession in Louisiana?
