I have gotten an allergic reaction, possibly to Vicodin I've been taking. What else could I take as effective?

Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to Vicodin even though I've taken it numerous times in the past with no problem? I am in a pain management regimen for neck pain from a car accident. I really need something strong but would prefer not to take Vicodin anymore, in the off-chance that this caused the reaction. Suggestions for alternative medicines?
